KIKAPU BUM BAG| MADE IN KENYA

$165

Our hand crafted Fanny Pack is a combination of craftsmanship made in Kenya by local artisans; the weaving is done by Ali Bakari on the Kenyan coast using dried palms leaves. This traditional weaving technique, known as 'Suka', is commonly found on the East African coast. Using sustainable and readily available material, the craft is typically carried out by older men as a sort of retirement job that they can do in the comfort of their homes.

The leather, brass work and finishing is done by Jennifer and her team of women in Kariobangi, a slum just outside of Nairobi. Jennifer uses discarded leather off cut waste which would otherwise be headed to landfill and recycled brass which is made from melted down old padlocks etc.

The pouch measures approximately 30cm width and is +/- 16cm high. One side has an adjustable length brass buckle and the other side a detachable brass clasp. The zip opening is trimmed in leather with a leather tassel detail on the zip pull. The bag can be worn cross body or around your waist.

Made in Kenya, celebrating craftsmanship, traditional skills and artisanal work, with a whole lot of LOVE
